This track conveys the feelings of the families
at home while their sons are at the front fighting and dying.
The lyrics take a close look at the use of propaganda, the news
reels at the time. It also reflects the tiredness of a populace
that had endured through years of conflict, and the arrival of
the dreaded telegram.
At the front the Allies continued to push the
Nazis back, but the Allies attempted a dangerous operation to
take bridges in Holland that will allow them to across the Rhine,
and into the heart of the Nazi heartland. The thousand year Reich
starts to shrink as the Allies tighten their grip.
Although most targets are achieved British troops
engage in a risky operation at Arnhem.
In an attempt to capture bridges in occupied Holland the British
commandos drop behind enemy lines, but the operation becomes a
disaster. Some are captured, some escape, but many die.

Don't you think we've had it tough
For the last few years.
And don't you think that we've seen enough
Blood guts and tears.
And do you think all those films with John Mills are true.
Do you think that Pathe news tells all the truth.
I mean the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
So help us God if they should.
If they showed you and you knew the truth.
Would you cry or would you hide or try to avert your eyes.
I think you would probably have raised the roof.
The truth is the boy's in too deep right up to his neck,
Way out of his depth.
Struggling and gasping for his last breath.
Don't worry son we will telegram your mum,
About your demise and death.
A few lines of where and why you're dead,
The mad general said.
We will thank your mother for yours and her sacrifice...
Thank you mother dear.
Goodbye, good luck
PS: We're on the final run Arnhems next.
Oh by the way, have you any more sons to give away to us.
